Opening Bell 6/11

I had the pleasure of going to a great show the other night here in Dallas where 3 outstanding musicians performed accompanied by other fabulous musicians behind them. Live at the Casa De Blue

It is always such a joy as a musician to play at a venue that has great sound, great accommodations, and a great staff. House of Blues Dallas is by far one of the top 2 concert venue in Dallas, TX. The band I play in, Sleeperstar, played a show there last week accompanied by 3 amazing other bands, Abraham, Jillian Edwards, and Stars Go Dim. I sometimes photo at these shows, sometimes not. This show was a sometimes. I found myself following Jillian around during her warm up in the stairwell with her band mate, Kelsy, because they are pretty much amazing and I am drawn to wherever their music is being played….truly amazing. I really enjoy photoing live concerts and have been extremely inspired lately by my friend Andrew Shepherd. He is pretty much the best live performance photographer I have ever seen (among other styles)…no lie. Please don’t look at his live photos first and then mine….it’s not fair to me.

Seth Philpott Rocks

I recently had the pleasure of doing a promo shoot for a man who goes by the name of Seth Philpott. He’s one of the hottest up and coming artists in Nashville. Jeff Johnson Band

The Jeff Johnson Band totally rocks. They are based in Dallas, but every Tuesday they lead worship for a huge bible study, Break Away Ministries, in College Station, TX for 2000+ college kids. A few weeks ago I went with them on their trip. Driving from Dallas to College Station is like going through a time warp. You drive out of the modern, fast paced DFW Metroplex and pass through towns that are no bigger than my street block, all of which look like they are straight out of 1953. We stopped in Calvert, TX along the way to do a promo shoot for the band and I also photographed the live performance that evening.

Side note for photographers: I got to test out the new Canon 5D Mark II on this shoot, and it was sweeet! 21mp does NOT disappoint. The clarity of the shots through my 24-70mm L series was impeccable. The low light use was also nothing short of outstanding. I shot the majority of the live performance at ISO4000 and could have easily bumped it to ISO6400 and still had relatively no noise. Pretty awesome, I highly recommend it.

Karla Chisholm :: Baltimore, MD

I have the privilege of having a dear friend who just so happens to possess one of the most amazing singing voices that God has ever graced this earth with. Karla is about to record her first solo record with all original songs and I’m very excited to see where it takes her, I know it will be far. She currently resides in Baltimore, MD so she flew my butt out there for a weekend and we had a lovely time of catching up on each other’s lives, seeing great music in Baltimore, hanging with her entourage, and making great photos to help promote her record when it drops.

I’m normally going to try to limit these posts to only 10 images, but since this is the first post..and we had so many locations and set ups…I’m just gonna go for broke. Here we go:
